Will Yours Be My Valentine?

Last week, Yours Clothing offered me the chance to choose myself a dress for Valentines Day, which of course I was over the moon about - I really love what Yours Clothing are offering up at the minute.

That said, the eternal spinster in me thought what is the point? Last year I went to France for the day with a friend to 'celebrate' Valentines which was lovely. This year, I have Club Indulge's Valentines party to attend on the Saturday night which I am looking forward to.

I chose this dress because I love it - but also because I wanted to show you that fashion can be affordable. It is all well and good being sent items to review, but I know sometimes the purse strings just won't stretch as far as you would like them to! This dress is currently only £15.00 in the Yours Sale - which is a complete bargain!
http://www.yoursclothing.co.uk/P/Black_And_Pewter_Damask_Print_2_In_1_Dress-(19515).aspx

In fact, they have loads of dresses for £15.00 at the moment - loads of them perfect for a Valentines Day night out!

Back to the dress I chose - the  Black Dress With Silver Glittery Damask Print To Top is lovely. I found it a very generous fit and could easily have downsized, but I was worried about losing too much on the length. That said, the dress would look lovely with leggings or tights, so all would not be lost if it did come up a little shorter on you.

The silver doesn't show up as well as it could do in the picture, its much more striking in real life! When I wear this out properly I am going to dress it up with loads of sparkly jewellery, I'll make sure I share a pic afterwards!

Have you bought anything from Yours Clothing lately?

If you haven't used Yours Clothing before then you can use the code 'blogger6' to get £10 off of a £20 spend. New customers only but what better excuse do you need to give them a try?

You Don't Weigh 8 Stone, You Weigh One Cheryl Cole

Did you know that Cheryl Cole weights 8 stone? Me either - Not until I read an article in the Daily Mail today about new scales soon to be on sale by Superdrug. Did you care that she weighed 8 stone? No, me either. You can read the article here.

In fact, I wonder how Superdrug even know that Cheryl weighs 8 stone exactly - because as a celebrity she is obviously a super human whose weight doesn't fluctuate like the rest of us!

I'm using Cheryl as an example, but actually lots more "lucky" celebrities have been chosen by these new scales. Now, when you step on scales you can be told which celebrity you weigh the same as (or which two celebrities you are in between) rather than an actual figure that you can work with.

A whole new weight game: Forget pounds, stones and kilos, you can now weight yourself in comparison to celebrities

Cheryl Cole - 8st
Kate Middleton - 8st 6lb
Jessica Ennis - 8st 9lb
Ellie Goulding - 9st
Beyonce - 9st 4lb
Rihanna - 9st 7lb
Christina Hendricks - 11st
Khloe Kardashian - 12st 1lb
Adele - 14st
Queen Latifa - 14st
Gemma Collins - 16st
Melissa McCarthy - estimate 18st

How on earth they know that Rihanna weighs exactly 9st 7lb is beyond me, but apparently they do!

There are so  many weighs that I am disappointed in these scales, but probably none more so than Superdrug ENCOURAGING women to compare their bodies to others. Body positivity groups have worked hard to teach people that they are individual.

What happens when a celebrity gains weight, loses weight, gets pregnant... bodies change! Are Superdrug going to reissue these scales every time one of their chosen celebrities change weight?

It is a tough world out there and learning not to compare yourself to other people around you is tough, but it is an amazing feeling when you get there! We already have a media that teaches us celebrity bodies are attainable by everyone & that we should look like something that stepped out of Vogue magazine. Now we have scales that tell us we're not GOOD ENOUGH to be like our favourite celebrity...

Do you weigh Beyonce? Now you can emulate your favourite A-listers via these scales

Sure you can dress like Beyonce or copy Ellie Goulding's style, but unless this magical Superdrug scale tells you that you weigh the same as her then you'll never good enough - what a silly, bizarre idea!

I say - #BoycottSuperdrug - who's in?

Or perhaps you love the scales? I'd love to hear all your opinions!

7 Weeks To See London

Ideally I wanted to call this blog "7 Weeks Until I Leave London, I Haven't Seen Enough While Being Here So Now I Am Going To Do One New Thing A Week (On A Budget) Until I Leave" but that just wasn't catchy enough.

If you follow me on any social networking sites then you may have read that I am soon to be moving back up north. I have lived in London for the last 2 years and loved every minute of it.

Since living here I have started blogging, gone on a Eurostar train, watched a West End play, had more drunken nights than I can care to remember, got lost on numerous journeys, made new friends for life, found myself, got ridiculously sunburnt, found a love of pretty dresses, worn a 'knob' dress,  visited ASOS headquarters, eaten dinner at the Hilton Hotel, played proper bingo for the first time, been on TV and so much more.. What's not to love? Now, in 7 weeks I get to move back to be with my family, who I miss always when I am not there! Exciting!!!!

As much as I have done some pretty exciting stuff in London, I don't feel I have done enough - can you ever do enough?

So, for the next 7 weeks I have set myself a challenge. I want to do one fun, interesting, different thing each week between now and when I leave. On top of that, I am going to do that on a budget!

I'll choose a pretty dress to wear, maybe drag a friend along with me and blog about the whole thing - because that's how I roll! I might even do more than one thing in a week, because there is just so much to do! But at least one thing a week, to add to the amazing memories I already have of this beautiful city.

That said, you don't get rid of me that easily and I plan to come back to London often... woop!

If you have any recommendations of quirky, cheap, fun things to do in London, send them my way!!

Outside My Comfort Zone - Accessories

This weeks Outside My Comfort Zone post is about accessories and I could not be happier! If I am out and about, you'll rarely see me without a massive necklace on or big hoop earrings. I think what I love about accessories is that they are so cheap, so you can afford to treat yourself to a nice little bit of sparkle, even if you can't afford a new dress.

I decided to have a look through some of my pics, to see what sort of accessories I have worn over the last year... and this is what I came up with!

Glasses

I actually don't need to wear glasses myself, but I actually love wearing them. I keep meaning to invest in some 'geek'glasses to wear for fun without an outfit, but havent yet been brave enough! All of these glasses belong to friends, who are kind enough to let me try them on what I fancy it!

Necklaces

I have far more necklaces than a girl needs - but I honestly do love them! I like to pick up bargains from Primark and eBay and getting unique pieces from places like Black Heart Creatives. All of these necklaces are different lengths, which means I always have an appropriate piece to wear with an outfit.

I also love to wear big ear-rings and the occasional scarf. I love how a little accessory can change the way an outfit looks! You'll probably all nnotice that I have a bit of a love affair with wearing belts with my dresses too!

What accessories do you like to wear?

Guest Post: Everything 5 Pounds

This week I was asked to do a guest post for Everything 5 Pounds. I haven't tried the online store myself yet, but I have to admit to being pretty impressed with the range of plus size stuff they have on offer! I choose a few items that I liked most on the site and wrote a few words about them and about plus size shopping in general!

Click here to read the blog

What I'd like to know is - have you ever shopped at one of these budget online stores? If you have, what did you think? If you haven't, would you?

Thanks

Different Strokes For Different Folks

One thing I love about reading blogs is seeing how different people choose to style different outfits. I thought I would put together a few different examples as I find it fascinating to see. It's interesting to me to see how different dresses can look so different on ladies of vary heights, sizes, body shapes and different styles.

The Infamous Pink Clove Skater Dress

L-R - Me, Sarah from http://plussizeproud.wordpress.com/, Nikki from http://www.nattynikki.com/, Caroline from http://www.curvywordy.com/

The Simply Be Mermaid Dress

L-R Me, Rachel from http://www.adressisforlife.com/, Betty from http://pamperandcurves.blogspot.co.uk/

Red Lace New Look Dress

L-R Me, Mookie from muki7x7.blogspot.co.uk, Leah from http://www.justmeleah.co.uk/

I love that all of these dress look different on different ladies, even if they're styled the same! It just goes to show that you never know how a dress is going to look until you try it on - so get out there, be brave and try something new!

I'd love to expand on this feature in the future - Have you got a photo of you in a dress I have? I'd love to see and if possible share it with my readers!

Thanks

British Plus Size Fashion Weekend

I heard a lot about last years Plus Size Fashion Weekend, but sadly was unable to attend - I hope to change that this year. From what I hear, British Plus Size Fashion Weekend is about bringing together plus size brands and consumers, to showcase brands up and coming lines and let them see reaction from the people who are likely to buy it.

The British Plus Size Fashion Weekend website promises a weekend of fun, fashion and more - with catwalk fashion shows and the chance to shop at your favourite retailers (with some of them offering a discount).

Don't just think that it is big name brands that will be taking the stage, so far I have heard that names like Topsy Curvy and Syreeta Badu will be in attendance showing their clothing, so it is set to be a fashion filled day.

There are different tickets available (I need to decide which one I want!), so why not have a browse and see what you fancy? I am always excited to attending new plus size events and love that next month is going to see me attending my first plus size fashion show.

Will you be going?

ABC Of The New Pink Clove Collection

I saw on Twitter a couple of days ago that Pink Clove had put a couple of new items on their website and of course, couldn't resist a little peak! I can't even begin to tell you how excited I was when I saw the page - full of colour and patterns! I loved it!

I don't know if dress-envy is an actual condition, but if it is - I have it!! I thought I would take a closer look at a couple of their pieces... so here you have it!

Affordable - Floral Skater Dress

http://www.pinkclove.co.uk/dresses-c2/floral-skater-dress-p192

For a skater dress, I can't believe this only costs £18.00. I would usually expect to pay a bit more for a patterned skater dress like this. I like the length that it is on the model and if it came up to a similar length on me I would be very happy. The dress is available up to a size 26/28 and would definitely be on my 'to buy' list, if I had the budget!

Bargain - Animal Print Baby Doll Tunic

What I love about this baby doll tunic is that it's available in two colours - I love it when plus size fashion has choices which is something that we don't often see. I know that for some people tunic length tops are a bit short but as you can see both types go well with leggings. For £18.00 each, these are both bargains and I'd love to see both in my wardrobe.

Cash To Splash - Blue Colour Block Dress or Ballerina Wrap Dress

I had to cheat a little on the Cash to Splash section - firstly because both of these dresses are just £24 each and secondly because I chose both dresses! You probably already know, but I love a bit of colour. Both of these dresses are just so bright and vibrant that I would love to own them!

As yet, I have yet to try anything from the new Pink Clove collection, once I buy an item or two I will be sure to let you know!

Have you tried anything yet?

Not So Mini Mouse

Yes... The typo is on purpose! I know, I am THAT funny!

Just a very quick post today on a lovely polka dot dress I picked up in the ASOS Sale. It's currently only £13, bargain! (It seems to be out of stock upon checking, but they have the lovely navy one for only £22! http://www.asos.com/ASOS-Curve/ASOS-CURVE-Exclusive-Skater-Dress-In-Spot-Print/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=2995287&WT.ac=rec_viewed)

I love the skater dress because it is a longer length - although I have tucked it up under the belt because I wanted it to be a bit shorter for the night out I was going on. I love the versatility. Teamed it up with a black belt that I picked up at the Plus London Plus Size Market for the grand old price of 50p!

I managed to do the whole of Saturday night out sober... partying and dancing til 3am. I was quite proud of myself - Dryathlon/Cancer Research you should be too! http://www.justgiving.com/Debbie-Aiken-dryathlete

If you're looking for a dress or two for a bargain price, I really can't recommend the ASOS sale enough at the moment.

Big Bird - My ASOS Curve Sale Bargain!

I have to admit being a fan of a sale - I mean, when you can get a dress at a bargain price - why not!? Just before Christmas ASOS announced a massive up to 50% off and I could have wept - who wants to be bargain dress shopping before Christmas?

Anyway - two dresses caught my eye and so I had to have them - which at a total of £22 for 2 dresses delivered was amazing! I got my hands on this brill bird print dress & a lovely polka dot one, which no doubt I'll write about in the future too!

I wore it out the other day teamed up with a stretchy belt, New Look Jacket, One One Three Leggings and a New Look lion necklace (which was another sale bargain at £2!)

I found the dress to be a very generous fit and I love the pattern - which is pretty but also plain, so can be dressed up in anyway you want. It's also elasticated under the bust, which helps to give it a lovely shape and be nice and flattering, for want of a better word!

What sale bargains have you snapped up?

You can grab this ASOS dress at http://www.asos.com/ASOS-Curve/ASOS-CURVE-Skater-Dress-In-Bird-Print/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=3118890&SearchQuery=bird%20print&sh=0&pge=0&pgesize=36&sort=3&clr=Print for just £13!

OMCZ Keeping It Casual

I decided this week to keep up my Outside My Comfort Zone post with Yours Clothings 'Onesie Wednesday'. I know that Onesies are a bit of a marmite situation, but I have to say I love them!

Yours Clothing kindly sent me this onesie to review, because it is a feature in their new range which goes up to a size 36. I remember two years ago being over the moon because I found one website which had one onesie available in my size - now I have so much choice for my size and places like Yours Clothing going even bigger and for me it is amazing!

I love this onesie simply because it is comfy and cosy... its made of a lovely fleecy material which keeps me nice and toasty even on cold days. I have to say that when it comes to casual at home, I love nothing more than being in a onesie or a pair of pyjamas. The sizing of the onesie is great, it's long on me (but I am very short) so if you're a bit taller then go for it! I love the hood because it makes me feel all cosy and lovely.

You can buy this onesie up to a size 36 from here http://www.yoursclothing.co.uk/P/Red_and_black_star_print_hooded_onesie-(18330).aspx

Yours Clothing do a range of clothing and nightwear up to a size 36. I can vouch for this item http://www.yoursclothing.co.uk/P/Pink_Scruffy_Pooch_Frill_Sleeve_Placement_Print_PJ_Set-(20185).aspx because they kindly sent me the pyjamas. Unfortunately I wore them ALL over Christmas and left them at home at my mums house 400 miles away so there is no photos of me in them - bad blogger! They're really comfortable and well made though, so definite worth a look!

Yours Clothing were kind enough to feature my photo on their Facebook page yesterday, and it now has over 300 comments of debate on how good (or not!) I look in the onesie... I'd love to know what you think of this type of casual wear?

If you haven't used Yours Clothing before then you can use the code 'blogger6' to get £10 off of a £20 spend. New customers only but what better excuse do you need to give them a try?

My Mad Fat Diary

Over the last few months I have become more and more involved in "the scene" if that is the right word. It excites me to see that there are bloggers meet ups, fat socialising events, BBW nights etc. etc. I know that there are still people who don't realise these events exist - so here is a few of the ones I'll be attending over the next few weeks!

Plus London Plus Size Market - Over 20 stalls with people selling their goods - plus size clothes, shoes, accessories and so much more. Happening on the 17th January in Manor House, London. https://www.facebook.com/events/242788932563595/

BGP - A BBW night club. The next event is on the 18th January at a club near St Pauls, London. See www.biggirlspardise.com

Fat Chat UK - A sociable meet up at a cafe in North London. The next one takes place on the 8th February https://www.facebook.com/events/236271989887739/?fref=ts

Club Indulge - A BBW/BHM night club event for people of all sizes. The next event takes place on the 15th February. http://club-indulge.co.uk

I am sure there are other events to attend, these are just the ones I am attending and looking forward to.If you haven't been to anything before and you have a question or anything please give me a shout!

Hope to see some of you there

Super Size, Super Comfy

Sorry for the lack of blog posts, I have been up north for a couple of weeks and only just back in London. Today I had a lunch date with one of my bestests, but also had one of those days where you just want to be comfy! We were only going to the local Toby Carvery so I knew I didn't have to get super dressed up.

In the end, I opted for this new Yours Clothing gold leopard printed tunic top, which they kindly sent me just before Christmas. When they emailed me I was excited to learn that they are now offering a range of their items up to a size 36. Even though this is bigger than I personally need I am always excited to hear of new fatshion options and it's really great to see retailers listening to  the needs of their customers. They also sent me an amazing onesie, which I will review soon!

As you can see I went for very comfy - not a belt or accessory in sight! However, what I wore was perfect with me. I teamed it up with my Just 5 Pounds cardigan, One One Three leggings and some Primark boots - Comfy all the way!!

Yours Clothing have a number of items available up to a size 36, so if you have previously been put off by sizing then make sure you head over now. This item is now only £15 in the sale - bargain!

Have you bought anything from Yours Clothing lately?

Christmas Dress - A Tartan Treat

Happy New Year and all that jazz! I hope that 2014 turns out to be everything you could hope for and more!!

I wanted to do a quick blog on the dress I wore on Christmas day, which is a lovely tartan midi dress that the lovely ladies at Topsy Curvy were kind enough to send me just before the big day! I am in love with the current tartan trend & think that the pattern and colours are so lovely!

I really like the vibrant red on this dress, which I think made it perfect for the festive season. I got a size down from my usual size however it didn't feel to small at all! I like the snug fit so it was perfect for me. I really like the black side panels which I felt broke up the pattern of the dress a little! I teamed it up with some leggings from One One Three (which are amazing by the way - lovely thick material and great sizing!). I have bought from Topsy Curvy before (you can use their website or Facebook to purchase from there) and find their stuff always comes quickly, well packed and generous sizes!

The dress is currently only £21 on their site too! http://topsycurvy.co.uk/shop/tartan-midi-dress/

I have seen loads of your festive blogging outfits - if you have any more to share I would love to see them!
